BARBARY COAST
Cocktail Bar & Restaurant - Sinagpore
Brand World Design
THE BRAND CHALLENGE
'Barbary Coast is a dual-concept bar split over two floors situated in the old docks, in one of Singapore’s famous historic shop houses. The rich concept is heavily based on the grit and glory of San Francisco's gold mining era.
Downstairs - The Dead Fall
Based on the eponymous drinking holes that thrived in Frisco in the mid 1800’s. It's gritty, very rough and ready. A magnet for misfits, anyone is welcome, and anything goes.
Upstairs - The Barbary Coast Ballroom
Based on the lavish Ballrooms of Frisco's yesteryear. You’ll don your glad-rags, and swoon into the plush and opulent Barbary Coast Ballroom, you’ll be hit by a cacophony of wallpaper and a journey of flavours.
Help us make both offerings come alive.’
THE DESIGN SOLUTION
After massively over indulging in the incredible history of San Francisos gold rush era, we realised that whether Prince or pauper, good or bad, the dream of gold never died. Frisco was furnished with all sorts of characters and we wanted customers to get lost in their stories...
We established a very strong tone of voice for both bars which worked hand in hand with the design…
DEADFALL
The Deadfall logo (‘fall dead’ if read wrong) is spray painted around the gritty, rough (yet incredible styled) interior. All menus are littered with dark but witty handwritten notes by the misfits of yesteryear. The food menus are old news papers titled ’The Deadfall Chew Over’ where the ‘List of Liquid Gold’ speaks more to the whiskey drinkers. Some cocktail menus are played out with a click-clack menu but if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, its easy enough to turn to 'The Spirits of Deadfall’.
THE BARBARY COAST BALLROOM
The Barbary Coast Ballroom logo hides multiple stories in its excessive filigree. The top floor bar is a lavish affair, from champagne buttons and William Morris style bandanas to gold cocktails and metres of cheese and menus laden with hand written notes and sketches from mixologists, all composed on old papers from 1800’s. Even the take away cocktails feature tongue in cheek scribbles.
There is so much to see you can’t help but return.
